Found: Newport, Oregon — beside a whale-watching sign, which we thought was a lot.

Condition on arrival: Good.

Temperament: Enormous, gentle, unhurried. Nothing rattles him.

Light: Any.

Attention: Low.

Good with children: Excellent — probably our best with small children.

Good with other residents: Yes, and he’s good for anxious ones.

Requirements: Space. He needs a wall that can take him, and people consistently underestimate this.

Hook: “Found beside a whale-watching sign, which we felt was showing off.”

Wally was on the beach at Newport, directly beneath a whale-watching sign, which struck us as a bit much. He is gentle, unhurried and entirely unrattleable, and he’s the resident we put with the nervous ones because they settle around him. The only warning is size — measure your wall first. Everybody underestimates Wally and then has to move a bookcase.
